Giada De Laurentiis had a huge moment as a chef on Saturday when she got to cook and serve lunch for around 3,6oo people at the Foundation Polo Challenge including Prince William and Duchess Catherine, aka Kate Middleton. So, how did it go?

“I can honestly say that beside my wedding and the birth of my daughter, Saturday was probably the most exciting day of my life,” Giada told the Today show after her big weekend in Santa Barbara, Calif.

That doesn’t mean there weren’t a few glitches in preparing the meals for such a large crowd. But Giada got to serve the Duke and Duchess herself and it made it all worth it.

“They laughed, and they were so warm and friendly,” Giada explained. “It felt like chatting with some friends even though I know we’re not friends.”

And the royal couple even asked her about her daughter, Jade.

“What really touched my heart was when we chatted about Jade, my daughter,” she recalled. “They asked about her and that just kind of threw me off. At that point I was like, ‘Okay, I’m done. I just want to get out of here.’ This was perfect that’s all I need to hear.”

“It was fabulous,” she concluded. “A lot of stress, though. A lot of stress.”
