Few people — and even fewer celebrities — ever have a year like the one Britney Spears has had in 2008.
From a nasty custody battle to hospitalizations to handing over the reins of her life to her father, this could easily have been the lowest point in her life. But then again, she's got a hit song, a new album, a reinvigorated relationship with her formerly estranged family — so 2008 hasn't been without its good side.
"The whole year has been a hell of a year for me," the pop superstar admits in the new issue of . "I didn't know exactly where I stood with everyone."
A big turning point for Brit was her triumphant return to the MTV Video Music Awards in September, one year after almost throwing her career away with a dazed and lazy performance at the ceremony. "When I received the awards and the audience stood for me, it showed me how much love is out there," she explains.
