Like every married couple, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi have had their ups and downs. Now, as the pair gear up to celebrate their sixth anniversary on August 16, OK! can reveal that Ellen has a very special gift planned for her wife: scaling back her own drinking in order to help Portia with her sobriety. “Ellen has always been a big drinker—she loves her wine,” says a source. “But she’s realized that her behavior has only enabled Portia to drink as well, and she feels partially responsible for Portia’s rehab stint.”

Since allegedly participating in a 30-day program for substance abuse at Passages Malibu rehab facility in May, Portia, 41, and Ellen 56, have made a real attempt to rekindle their bond, with Ellen taking time out of her busy schedule for a romantic vacation. On June 29, the pair were spotted on a yacht off the coast of Croatia, clearly enjoying their downtime together.

“Ellen loves Portia more than anything in the world and wants to make sure she’s healthy, emotionally and physically,” says the source. “She’s realized that drinking in front of Portia is just selfish. Right now their marriage is better than it’s been in years, and Ellen is just grateful that her wife is healthy again. She’s ready to enjoy every minute that she has with Portia.”
