Doctor Who, 8 p.m. BBCA

Do you have a special nerd in your life? Then they’ve probably been talking your ear off about the new season of Doctor Who, which begins on BBC America on Saturday night. The eighth season introduces the handsome Peter Capaldi as the new Doctor, so fans are VERY eager to meet him. So much so, that there’s also a live pre-show to kick off the festivities at 7:30 p.m.!

MTV 2014 Video Music Awards, 9 p.m. MTV

While the big show doesn’t kick off until 9 p.m. with Ariana, Jessie and Nicki performing “Bang Bang” right at the top,  you can also tune in at 8 p.m. to see the pre-show from the red carpet. It’s co-hosted by Lucy Hale and will include performances from Charli XCX and Fifth Harmony!

But then we get down to serious business. Taylor will be in the house, ready to “Shake it Off“, Beyonce’s getting a special award, and  you just know there’s going to be twerking. Stay tuned to for live updates on the show Sunday night!

Rising Star, 9 p.m. ABC 

Which star will rise the highest? What color with Kesha’s hair be? Will Josh Groban be adorable? Well, yes of course. But find out the answers to the first two questions on the season finale, Sunday night on ABC.
