Ever since her run on last season’s Dancing with the Stars, Candace Cameron Bure—who finished in third place—has been looking better than ever. So when she announced in a Facebook post on July 14 her plans to kick of a five-day cleanse, many fans were quick to voice their disapproval, worrying that the Full House alum was taking her weight loss too far.

Given her history with bulimia, Candace, 38, felt the need to defend her decision. “I’m excited to start my cleanse, not to lose weight, but to get my body back on track, ridding all the toxins and unhealthy stuff I’ve put in it the last few months,” she later wrote.

Still, celebrity body expert Alicia Hunter believes that even a healthy-seeming, short-term cleanse may not be the best idea for someone who has suffered from an eating disorder. “Any overly restrictive form of dieting can trigger the emotions that led to the original onset of the disorder,” Alicia says, adding that our bodies have the ability to cleanse themselves simply through the consumption of whole foods and liquids.
The latter choice certainly seems like the better fit for Candace, given her admission of “overindulgent vacation eating,” but one thing’s for sure: This is probably the last time she’ll be sharing her meal plans on social media!
