Angelina Jolie Beats Jennifer Aniston's Previous Record Of Fastest Time Getting One Million Instagram Followers
Angelina Jolie seems to have snagged the honor of gaining the most Instagram followers in the shortest amount of time from her former adversary, Jennifer Aniston.
As OK! previously reported, the 46-year-old amassed over 1.7 million followers in just an hour after sharing her first post on Friday, August 20.
“This is a letter I was sent from a teenage girl in Afghanistan,” Jolie captioned the post — titled “A Letter From An Afghan Girl” — referring to the horrific Taliban takeover of the country. “Right now, the people of Afghanistan are losing their ability to communicate on social media and to express themselves freely. So I’ve come on Instagram to share their stories and the voices of those across the globe who are fighting for their basic human rights.”
Three hours later after sharing her initial post, the Those Who Wish Me Dead star — who is currently following @naacp, @doctorswithoutborders and @refugees — had already gained 2.1 million followers.
In October 2019, Aniston nearly broke the internet when she announced her arrival on Instagram by sharing a group photo with her Friends costars David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry and Courteney Cox. “And now we’re Instagram FRIENDS too,” she captioned the shot. “HI INSTAGRAM.”
A day later, the Guinness World Records declared Aniston had set a new record for the fastest time to reach one million followers on the social media platform in just 5 hours and 16 minutes.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had previously held the record after the couple's @sussexroyal Instagram account reached 1 million followers in five hours and 45 minutes in April 2019.
Jolie and Aniston, of course, have a long history. The Morning Show star was famously married to Brad Pitt when rumors began to swirl that sparks were flying between the 57-year-old and the humanitarian on set of 2005's Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Aniston and Pitt announced their seperation in January 2005, making it a point to say in their joint statement, “our separation is not the result of any of the speculation reported by the tabloid media."
However, a few months later, Pitt was spotted on a beach in Diani Beach, Kenya, with the Maleficent actress and her then 3-year-old son Maddox. In 2008, the actor also told Rolling Stone that his favorite movie of Jolie’s was Mr & Mrs. Smith "because, you know…six kids. Because I fell in love."
The bitter exes are currently locked in a contentious custody dispute. As OK! previously reported, Jolie was handed a legal victory last month — but Los Angeles divorce attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan said the humanitarian still has "an uphill battle" when it comes to their case.
