James Haven opened up about a milestone moment with his father.
The 53-year-old brother of actress Angelina Jolie revealed the emotional aftermath of coming out and the phone call he had with his dad, Jon Voight, about his true identity.

James Haven detailed his journey on Jon Dean's podcast.
Haven publicly came out during a Thursday, August 6, livestream on Substack alongside his ex-wife and close friend, Romi Imbelli. The pair married in August 2024, however, they annulled their marriage just a few months later and remain close.
During the Wednesday, August 12, episode of the podcast "All Out With Jon Dean," Haven shared that he knew he wasn't straight for most of his life, but he finally decided to speak his truth after Imbelli, 44, began writing a memoir that detailed the end of their marriage.
'I Lost My Life in This Process Up to This Point'

James Haven shared that he was 'hurting every day.'
Haven said, "If you know you are, but you can’t say it, you’re hurting every day. I lost my life in this process up to this point, so I’m tired of that. I want a life now. I want to actually live a life. I want to be happy. I want to be me. I want to be joyful. I want everyone to know who I am, so I’m not hiding anymore."
While he had never publicly identified his sexuality in past, many of those close to him always had a feeling.
"I’ve not gotten one text from one person that knows me that says, 'Oh, my gosh, I had no idea,'" Haven continued. "They all have kind of said, 'I’ve always known,' or, 'Thank you for finally being ready to say it.'"

James Haven Received a Phone Call From His Father

James Haven admitted it was 'very difficult' growing up with his dad.
However, the biggest surprise was that Haven's decision to come out brought him closer to his estranged father, 87.
Growing up, Haven had a "very difficult" dynamic with his dad, recalling that "the biggest issue I dealt with in my relationship with him for the longest time was a value issue."
"There was a long period of time … we didn’t talk for many years because of a lack of value that I felt from him," Haven added.
'I Couldn’t Believe What I Was Hearing'

James Haven called the phone call 'surreal.'
Much to Haven's surprise, he received what he called a "surreal" phone call from Voight last week.
"I’m just like, 'Hey,' and he’s like, 'So…' I’m like, 'Ah, here we go…'" Haven detailed the conversation. "He goes, 'I finally know who you are' … and all of a sudden we had this really nice chat, and I called [Imbelli] immediately and I said, 'I did not expect that phone call.'"
Haven continued, "Somehow, him saying that was like, 'Oh, my God, OK.' I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. He kept talking about it, like, 'Now I understand why you’ve been so private.'"
“I feel so free now. I feel so free. Now I can be myself,” he raved on the podcast.
