Tragic Khloé: Did Kris Jenner Sacrifice Her Daughter’s Happiness In Pursuit Of Family Fame?
Jan. 5 2021, Updated 4:19 p.m. ET
Kris Jenner’s single-minded hunger for fame and fortune at any cost plunged her daughter, Khloé, into a tragic battle with the demons of depression, weight gain and booze.
The tragic story of how Hollywood ‘Momager’ Kris’s ambitions have damaged Khloé is told in the explosive new book, Dirty Sexy Money: The Unauthorized Biography of Kris Jenner.
In it, celebrity biographer Cathy Griffin and investigative journalist Dylan Howard reveal the real story behind the rise and rise of modern history’s greatest celebrity dynasties.
Using first-person testimony, unseen documents and in-depth research, the pair of Hollywood sleuths reveal how Khloé became the black sheep of the family as she struggled to fit into the role of glam superstar that Kris crafted for her daughters.
Even when she was born on June 27, 1984, Khloé was an outsider, looking different from the rest of her family. Instead of dark hair and brown eyes like her Armenian father, Robert Kardashian, she had fair skin, blonde hair, and green eyes.
This led to questions over her parentage that have persisted throughout her life.
One rumor even suggested that her father was shamed murder suspect O.J. Simpson, a claim both Simpson and Kris, who were once close friends, have vehemently denied.
However, in Dirty Sexy Money: The Unauthorized Biography of Kris Jenner, published by Skyhorse Publishing nationwide on January 5, reveals that when Kris’s marriage to Robert started to break down in 1991, and Kris had an affair with young soccer player Todd Waterman, Robert also began to wonder whether he was actually Khloé’s father.
There is no doubt Kris’ behavior would have had an impact on her daughters at the time as she took them along on her trysts with her boytoy lover.
As Dirty Sexy Money: The Unauthorized Biography of Kris Jenner reveals, they were so familiar with Todd that Khloé talked with her sisters openly about the man their mom was spending so much time around.
Entries in Robert’s secret diary from the time, published in the book, reveal the family torment.
On December 15, 1989, he wrote: "Todd drove up to the back gate and parked. He went into the house and slept in my bed … Khloé and Robert were in the house. Closer to Christmas Day, she doesn’t care!"
After their acrimonious divorce, both Kris and Robert moved on quickly to new partners.
Kris met and married Bruce Jenner in 1991 and in the same year Robert moved in with wealthy heiress Denice Halicki. (Bruce later publicly came out as a transgender woman in 2015, taking the name Caitlyn.)

The Kardashian children began spending more time with Robert during the week and they saw less and less of their mom and stepdad — as the couple toured the world so that Caitlyn could make money doing public appearances and giving motivational talks.
The schedule took its toll on Khloé. The innocent nine-year-old dented Kris’ carefully crafted perfect family image during an interview when she blurted that she didn’t know where her parents were when they were away, and said she cried when they were gone for long periods of time.
As she got older, Khloé started to struggle with her weight and when she hit puberty, the problems escalated.
At 13, she began sneaking out of the house and drove her mom’s car to clubs to meet men with her pal Paris Hilton, who was three years older.
Tragically, after Robert died of cancer in 2003, Khloé, then 19, started to pull clumps of her hair out and wore wigs to hide the bald spots caused by trauma.
She continued to seek refuge in the wild nightclub scene and started emotional eating, piling on an extra 30 pounds
During the first season of Keeping Up With the Kardashians in 2007, Khloé got arrested for a DUI and happiness appeared to have evaded her. She married basketball star, Lamar Odom, in 2009 but that was short-lived, and the couple filed for divorce in 2013, due to Lamar’s infidelity and rampant drug use.
Dirty Sexy Money: The Unauthorized Biography of Kris Jenner authors Griffin and Howard explain that Khloé’s mom’s ambition has always been a bitter pill for her to swallow.
"Of all the children, Khloé is the one that has struggled the most. They’ve all had their dramas, but Khloé has internalized it all. Kris’s all-consuming desire for fame and fortune has been a Faustian pact, and the price she appears to have paid is her own daughter’s happiness and stability," they write.
