Donald Trump Insists Dolly Parton 'Really Liked Me' Despite Country Icon's Refusal to Ever Praise Him Before Her Death

Donald Trump is insisting Dolly Parton was a fan of his, despite the country music legend's consistent refusal to endorse or praise him publicly during her lifetime.

During a Wednesday, August 26, phone interview with Glenn Beck, the president of the United States said the "Jolene" singer's death felt like "losing a member of the family," claiming, "I knew her a little bit. She wasn’t a very political person. She really liked me, I will tell you."

However, throughout her career and up until her passing, Parton refrained from expressing any public support or admiration for Trump, maintaining a neutral stance on political matters.

In 2016, Parton specifically refused to endorse both Trump and Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton for president, declaring, "They're both nuts."

At the 2017 Emmys, Parton stood alongside her 9 to 5 co-stars Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda as they labeled Trump a "a sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot."

The "I Will Always Love You" singer didn't participate in saying anything aloud about Trump while on stage, later telling NewsWeek, "I don’t really like getting up on TV and saying political things."

Trump's latest comments on Parton comes after he took to social media in the hours after her death was announced to share a tribute, ordering all American flags to be lowered across the nation for a week in honor of the queen of country music.

"Very sad to report that Dolly Parton, one of the greatest Country singers, and far beyond, EVER, has just passed away. This is a true loss for millions of people," he wrote via Truth Social after Parton's death was announced by her nephew Bryan Seaver on Tuesday, August 25.

The POTUS continued, "There has never been anyone like her, and never will. In her honor, I am lowering the American flag throughout the United States for a one week period beginning tonight at 6:00PM. Rest in Peace, Dolly! The World loves you. President DONALD J. TRUMP."

Parton's death shocked the world on Tuesday, when her nephew unexpectedly took to her social media profile to announce her passing in a nearly three-minute video.

"I am representing the Parton and Owens family today, announcing the passing of my Aunt Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean. Sister, sis, aunt, granny to one generation and Gigi to the next," he emotionally shared.

"This video announcement is something Dolly asked of me years ago, before I fully absorbed it as a future reality. As her head of security for more than two decades, a role my father Larry held before me, I have imagined the heaviness of this moment but haven’t truly felt it until now," the son of the award-winning artist's sister Cassie Parton went on.

Dolly's nephew then acknowledged his aunt's heavenly reunion with her late husband, Carl Dean, adding: “It is an honor, an honor that is mixed with absolute pride and great sadness. But sadness lies with us, not with Dolly. Dolly has lived in the light and is in the arms of Jesus, surely met by [her late husband] Carl [Thomas Dean], her parents and countless others who have watched her and longed to meet her in the heavens."
