The 2022 Billboard Music Awards is getting ready to take Sin City!
On Sunday, May 15, the annual music award show will go live from Las Vegas with host Diddy, to honor the highest achieving music superstars of the year and showcase performances from acts like Machine Gun Kelly, Ed Sheeran and Silk Sonic.
“This will be unlike any awards show – I’m bringing the love and setting the frequency at an all-time high,” the master of ceremonies for the event said in a statement last month. “The Billboard Music Awards truly represent the artists and where music is today, so I’m excited to curate the biggest live performances and surprises. The world has to tune in to see.”

However, the most highly anticipated moment of the night will be when Travis Scott takes the stage for his first award show performance since the deadly Astroworld Music Festival which claimed the lives of ten concert goers and left hundreds injured in a crowd surge last November.
Despite the controversy and lawsuits surrounding Scott, Diddy demanded the rapper perform at the live event. "For the Billboard Music Awards this Sunday I made a request, I made a demand. I said, 'My brother Travis Scott has to perform. I'm executive producing, he has to perform,' and NBC said, 'Yes.' It's going down Sunday, Travis Scott will be performing … now that's love," the "Coming Home" artist said in an Instagram video.
"There will be no canceling on my watch. Love is about forgiveness… so that was why it was important for me to have Travis Scott perform. It's going to be a great night," he concluded.
Another controversial artist taking the stage? County star Morgan Wallen, who hasn’t performed at an awards show since he came under fire in February 2021 for saying the N-word in a leaked video.
During the show, Mary J. Blige will be awarded the 2022 Icon Award and give a show-stopping performance. “To be recognized in this way at this moment, with the Icon Award at the Billboard Music Awards, is an incredible honor and one that I am truly humbled by," she said in a statement.
As for the nominees, The Weeknd leads the pack with 17 nominations along with Doja Cat, Olivia Rodrigo, Justin Bieber, Drake, Taylor Swift and Kanye West.
Other performers include: Megan Thee Stallion, Dan + Shay, Becky G, Latto, Miranda Lambert and Florence + the Machine.
The 2022 Billboard Music Awards will air on NBC at 8 p.m. ET and will also be available for viewers to stream on Peacock.
