Gigi Hadid & Zayn Malik Split Was The Result Of 'Tension' After The Singer Allegedly Suspected Yolanda Hadid 'Leaked' Their Pregnancy News Last Year: Source
It seems that Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik's split may have been a long time coming.
The break-up was reportedly the result of "tension" dating back to the former One Direction member allegedly accusing Yolanda Hadid of "leaking" their pregnancy news last year, a source told The Sun.
The insider said the "Better" singer suspected that Yolanda was the one who leaked the news about Gigi's pregnancy with their daughter Khai. "Gigi and Zayn didn't want to announce it publicly until after Gigi gave birth. With lockdown, it was the perfect time to give them that privacy they never would have had otherwise," the source explained.
"They were so grateful for that privacy and they were very upset when it came out. Zayn is a very, very private person and while dating him, Gigi has become a lot more private too," the insider added.
According to the source, Malik does not think Yolanda has the "same sense of privacy." "They also have very different parenting styles and both are extremely stubborn when it comes to Khai," the insider spilled.
Meanwhile, the model feels like she is "in the middle" of the drama between her mother and her daughter's father. "It's a tough spot, she has loyalty to both," the source noted. "She's doing her best but Khai is and will always be her #1 priority."
"Gigi's tried and tried to mediate [Yolanda and Zayn’s] relationship but they just don't see eye-to-eye," the source added. "She realized it was healthier for her to not be with Zayn right now. It was ultimately her who ended the relationship."

According to the source, the former flames parted ways "with the intention of getting back together." "They've broken up multiple times before so when it comes to them getting back together, never say never," the insider explained.
"But they definitely need time apart, it's what's best for everyone involved," the source added.
As previously reported by OK!, Yolanda alleged that Malik "struck her" during an argument while Gigi was not at home. She is reportedly considering filing a report with the police about the alleged incident.
Malik addressed the allegations in a statement. "As you all know I am a private person and I very much want to create a safe and private safe for my daughter to grow up in," the 28-year-old wrote.
"A place where private family matters aren’t thrown on the world stage for all to poke and pick apart. In an effort to protect that space for her I agreed to not contest claims arising from an argument I had with a family member of my partner’s who entered our home while my partner was away several weeks ago," the statement continued.
"Gigi is solely focused on the best for Khai. She asks for privacy during this time," the 26-year-old said in her own statement via her representative.
