Hayden Panettiere was brutally honest about her struggles during her last public appearance before she tragically died at age 36 on Sunday, August 16.
During a May 26 event in West Hollywood, Calif., the actress discussed her memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning, at a panel in front of fans with moderator Alyshia Ochse.

Despite the heavy topics. Panettiere appeared to be in good spirits in published photos from the day.
Writing the Book Helped the Actress 'Heal'

The actress' book discussed her experiences with postpartum depression, childhood stardom and addiction.
The blonde beauty also revealed that writing the book and sharing her story was "healing."
"So many people have come up to me within the industry and outside of the industry and shared their stories with me and said, ‘Because you’ve talked about your mental health, it gave me the courage to be honest about mine and get myself help, and you saved my life.' And I was like, this is worth it," the Heroes star gushed. "I can hopefully leave the world a better place than I found it. The strength is in our vulnerability."

The star's memoir made The New York Times' bestseller list.
It was just one day after the talk that Panettiere celebrated the success of her tome.
"Ahhhh!!! @newyorktimes bestseller list!!!" she raved on Instagram. "What a wild ride this has been. Thank you ALL for all the support! 🙌🏻."
How Did Hayden Panettiere Die?
The actress died on Sunday, August 16, from an 'apparent overdose.'
As OK! reported, Panettiere was found unresponsive by a friend in her South Carolina loft.
The 911 dispatch call mentioned a female in "cardiac arrest" after an "apparent overdose." According to reports, first responders quickly arrived and administered "advanced cardiac life support" and chest compressions, but the star could not be resuscitated.
Her official cause of death has not yet been revealed, but authorities stated there were no signs of foul play.

The 'Nashville' star had been spending time with on-off boyfriend Brian Hickerson a few days before she died.
It was reported that her on-again, off-again boyfriend Brian Hickerson — whom she has accused of abuse — flew out from Los Angeles following the news, as they had allegedly been together a few days beforehand.
The teen star's rep confirmed the tragedy in an official statement, expressing, "It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden. She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her — and to the millions who watched her onscreen."
Panettiere's younger brother, Jensen, died at age 28 in 2023 from aortic valve complications stemming from undiagnosed heart condition. Jensen also battled addiction.
