The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) recently asked Miami-Dade County not to release a man charged in a hit-and-run case, per a press release by Homeland Security.
The incident left a 74-year-old woman critically injured in front of her home, while the driver fled the scene after causing the accident.
'Criminal Illegal Alien' Behind Hit-and-Run Case That Put Elderly Woman on Life Support
Geraldine Byrd is currently on life support according to official reports.
On the morning of Sunday, August 2, an elderly woman named Geraldine Byrd reportedly stopped in front of her driveway and got out of her car to open the gate and make her way inside. However, a truck suddenly collided with her car from behind, causing it to spin and strike her. The truck then reportedly moved forward once again and hit the old woman, trapping her underneath.
The driver, instead of helping the victim, allegedly got out of the truck and fled the scene after seeing the damage he had caused. Byrd was reportedly taken to a hospital in a nearby area shortly afterward, where she remains in critical condition and on life support.

The incident has drawn significant attention, especially after it was revealed that the driver was an undocumented immigrant. Tomas Reymundo Brito, whom authorities have described as "a criminal illegal alien from Guatemala," was arrested shortly after fleeing the scene on Sunday morning.
Brito also allegedly admitted to drinking before getting behind the wheel of the vehicle he was driving. He is currently facing charges of leaving the scene of a crash involving serious bodily injury and driving without a license.

ICE Urged Miami-Dade County to Not Release the 'Criminal Illegal Alien'
Tomas Reymundo Brito allegedly entered the United States through illegal means.
ICE registered a detainer with Miami-Dade Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on the same day Brito was arrested.
The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released a statement following ICE's appeal to Miami-Dade County to keep Brito behind bars.
"This criminal illegal alien from Guatemala is charged with hit-and-run after a drunk-driving accident that sent a 74-year-old woman to the hospital in critical condition in Miami-Dade County," DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin said.
DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin said Tomas Reymundo Brito should be put in ICE custody.
"He should have never been allowed in our communities or on our streets. ICE is asking officials in Miami-Dade County to cooperate with us and not release this criminal from jail, and to turn him over to ICE custody so we can remove him from our country," he continued.
"Thanks to the strong leadership of President Donald Trump, ICE is unleashed to go after criminal illegal aliens like this one so that we can make America safe again," the DHS Secretary added in conclusion.
It remains unclear how or when Brito entered the country.
