Ivanka Trump Slammed for 'Tone-Deaf' Dolly Parton Tribute as Critics Say Trump Family's Values Are 'Opposite' of the Late Singer's

Ivanka Trump faced severe social media backlash after posting a tribute to late country music icon Dolly Parton, who passed away at age 80 on Tuesday, August 25.

The president’s eldest daughter praised Parton as an "American icon" and highlighted her philosophy of unconditional love and non-judgment.

The 44-year-old referred to the "9 to 5" crooner as a “peerless singer, incredible songwriter, gifted comic actress, tireless philanthropist, accomplished businesswoman and true original.”

In her post on X, Trump recalled a quote from Parton she had previously shared on the "Lex Fridman Podcast," writing, "I don't criticize and condemn I love and accept."

Ironically, the quote came after a reporter asked the country icon why she recorded a song with the MAGA supporter Kid Rock on her 2023 Rock Star album.

"Somebody was talking to me the other day, ‘How could you do this [song] with Kid?’” Parton told The Hollywood Reporter in 2023. “I said, ‘Hey, just because I love you don’t mean I don’t love Kid Rock. Just because I love Kid Rock don’t mean I don’t love you.’ I don’t condemn or criticize. I just accept and love.”

Trump said the quote “resonated within me since I first heard it.”

Critics immediately slammed the message as "tone-deaf" and hypocritical, pointing out the stark contrast between those values and the aggressive, insult-heavy political rhetoric of her father, President Donald Trump.

Commenters heavily criticized Ivanka, arguing that her family's political brand is built on the exact opposite principles — frequently attacking opponents and media figures.

“Your father and brothers demonstrate precisely the opposite every hour of every day,” one commenter snapped.

Another added, “Why don’t you tell your father who degrades women every day to follow that advice?”

The tension was heightened by historical context, as Parton famously turned down the Presidential Medal of Freedom from the Trump administration twice.

In 2024, Ivanka told the podcaster that Dolly reminded her of her late mother, Ivana.

“She’s so authentically herself, and she’s obviously so talented, and... she has no conflict within herself as to who she is. She reminds me a lot of my mom in that way,” she said. “And she leads with a lot of, like, love and positivity.”

The famously and publicly non-partisan Dolly admitted in 2020, “I don’t like to get involved in politics, because first of all, I have as many Republican fans as I do Democrats. I don’t want to offend anybody; I have a right to myself.”
