Jenna Dewan Says Comments About Ex-Husband Channing Tatum Not Being 'Available' After Welcoming Daughter Everly Were 'Distorted'

Jenna Dewan made headlines recently when she opened up about struggling after welcoming her first child with Channing Tatum — but now, she's clarifying her statements.

The 40-year-old appeared on the "Dear Gabby" podcast on Monday, August 2, where she said that the 21 Jump Street star "wasn't available to be with us, for the most part" due to work commitments following the birth of their daughter, Everly, in 2013.

"So, it was me, my doula and Evie all by ourselves traveling at six weeks," Dewan said on the podcast of balancing work and parenting.

"It's unfortunate that countless media outlets have taken an important conversation on a woman's experience with postpartum issues and pulled quotes to make it appear that I was slamming my daughters' father, something I would never do," Dewan wrote in a statement on Tuesday, August 3.

"As two working parents, we both faced challenges at the time, but I speak only for myself and not about him," the 10 Years star added. "Anyone who actually listens to the interview, something I encourage everyone to do, will clearly see that my words have been distorted for clicks and to push false, salacious gossip with no regard for the actual people involved, or the message intended."

Everly had reportedly been born in London while the 41-year-old was filming Jupiter Ascending, then weeks later, Dewan flew to Canada to resume working on Witches of East End. The actress said on the podcast that it was "really hard because that was long hours. I did have her on set with me constantly. It was just really difficult."

"And I had a lot of postpartum anxiety I would say," the brunette beauty continued. "It was like, I just never stopped. You know, you're up a couple times in the night and then you're working all day. I was breastfeeding, I was pumping, I was without a partner, I mean it was just craziness."

An insider told PEOPLE that the Magic Mike actor believes Dewan's recent comments were misconstructed and that he had made sure that both Dewan and Everly were taken care of after she gave birth. According to TMZ, sources said that at the time Tatum rented a private plane for his wife, daughter and a doula, and rented a nice home in Vancouver to keep them safe and comfortable.

Once Jupiter Ascending moved from London to Chicago, the actor is said to have traveled to Vancouver as often as possible to see Dewan and the baby, TMZ reported.

The former flames became an item after starring in Step Up together in 2006 and got hitched in 2009. The pair announced that they had gone their separate ways in 2018, with the divorce reportedly being finalized a year later.

The dancer welcomed her second child, Callum Michael Rebel, with Steve Kazee in March 2020. On the podcast, she noted that "this time around, I was so grounded," she said. "Even though the world was crazy, I was home and in this love nest and it was different."
