Jon Stewart found the farce inside President Donald Trump’s secretive plane switch.
On The Weekly Show, Stewart mocked reports that Trump was moved in an airport catering container in Ankara, Turkey, on July 8, after intelligence officials warned of a potential Iranian assassination threat. The president had been leaving a NATO summit when the security plan reportedly required him to switch aircraft away from public view.
The Washington Post and The New York Times reported that Trump appeared to board an older Air Force One plane, but was then secretly moved to a different military aircraft with the help of a catering truck normally used to load meals and supplies onto planes.
The Catering-Truck Question
Jon Stewart joked about Donald Trump being hidden inside an airport catering truck.
“Here’s the question,” Stewart said. “Did he have to put on the cater waiter outfit?”
Producer Gillian Spear played along, joking, “He had a disguise. He dressed as a bellhop.”
Stewart pushed the bit further, imagining Trump being hidden under a serving dome.

“They brought him in on the big table and it had the little cloche on it and then they pulled it in, they got the table to the safe location and then they lifted the cloche — ‘Are you OK now, Mr. President?’ They put it back down.”
“It’s just such a screwball comedy. It’s perfect,” Spear replied.

A Decoy Plane and a Real Threat
Reports said Donald Trump switched planes after an alleged assassination threat.
The episode was not simply a visual gag. According to the reports, Trump had arrived in Turkey aboard the Qatari-gifted Boeing 747-8 he has used as a retrofitted Air Force One. After the threat emerged, the aircraft he was seen boarding became part of the public-facing story.
The White House initially told reporters Trump had switched to the older plane for “old time’s sake.” Reports later revealed the president had been moved from the side of the aircraft to a third plane.
After both planes arrived in the U.K., Trump reportedly moved back to the older aircraft so he could descend as if he had flown aboard it. He later returned to Washington on the Qatari-gifted plane.
The Clouseau Factor
Jon Stewart compared the security operation to a scene from ‘The Pink Panther.’
Stewart acknowledged that presidents have changed travel plans because of security threats before, but mocked the way this one was handled.
“It’s very Clouseau,” he said, invoking the bumbling Pink Panther detective.
Critics have questioned whether the decoy left members of the press and White House staffers exposed on the original aircraft. Asked whether reporters would find it “cool” to take a bullet or missile for Trump, Stewart joked, “Absolutely.”
