Donald Trump Secretly Escaped Iran Assassination Threat by Ducking Into Catering Truck and Using Air Force One as a Decoy, Report Claims

President Donald Trump was secretly evacuated from Turkey on a smaller military aircraft last month following a credible Iranian assassination threat, using the traditional Air Force One as a decoy jet.

The elaborate ruse, first reported by The Washington Post on Monday, August 10, contradicted weeks of public narratives and official explanations from the White House.

After attending a NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey, Trump publicly boarded the classic "baby blue" Boeing 747 Air Force One in front of cameras. Once inside, he was secretly transferred off the plane in an airport food-catering truck to conceal his movements.

The catering truck transported Trump to a smaller Air Force Boeing C-32A — a military jet typically reserved for the Vice President and cabinet members.

The primary Air Force One took off with White House staff and traveling members of the press corps, who completely believed the president was on board with them.

Both planes landed at Royal Air Force Mildenhall in the United Kingdom. Trump was secretly moved back onto Air Force One before descending the main staircase in front of reporters to maintain the illusion.

The administration initially went to great lengths to conceal the security swap, leading to heightened internal tension and conflicting explanations.

Trump traveled to the summit aboard a new, luxury red, white and blue Boeing 747-8 gifted by Qatar.

When it was announced mid-trip that he would fly home on the older model, Trump publicly claimed he was sending the new jet ahead so that U.S. troops in England could see it.

Subsequent media leaks indicated the Secret Service pushed for the plane change because the un-upgraded Qatari jet lacked adequate missile defense systems.

This report allegedly enraged Trump, prompting a temporary Justice Department investigation into leaks.

According to intelligence officials reviewed by The New York Times, the true threat was a specific, imminent assassination plot by Iranian proxy forces targeting Trump himself and whatever aircraft he was physically occupying.

The extreme security measures occurred on July 8, 2026, exactly one night after U.S. forces conducted a round of retaliatory military strikes on Iran. The strikes followed a complete breakdown of diplomatic negotiations to end the months-long war.

When pressed on the newly revealed operational deception, White House communications director Steven Cheung did not deny the secret flight. He stated, "There are many enemies of America who have their sights on him, and we use every tool at our disposal to address those threats."

Political analyst and former Barack Obama chief strategist David Axelrod criticized the decision to use the legacy Air Force One as a decoy, with journalists and staff on board, during the exit from Turkey.

“In fact, everyone on that plane was a decoy. If they felt that it was unsafe to be on the plane, then it was unsafe for everybody else to be on the plane as well. So, they at least deserve to know, if not then, then after, why this was happening," he said.
