Going west: Katie Holmes has become ubiquitous around the Big Apple, but in the wake of her recent split from Emilio Vitolo Jr., an insider tells OK! that she's seriously considering heading back to L.A..
"Katie's ready to move on," says the insider, "in more ways than one."
The Dawson's Creek alum, 42, whose PDA packed romance with the 33-year-old restaurateur fizzled out after eight months, "likes the idea of relocating to Hollywood, where it will be easier to date someone who she knows isn't in it for the fame," dishes the insider.
Holmes is also itching to be back among the movers and shakers there "so she can really get her directing career going," the insider notes.
Compared to when she fled L.A. for New York City after her high-profile divorce from Tom Cruise, 58, in 2012, the actress is "so much more confident now," adds the insider. "She loves the city and plans to keep her residence there, but she wants to be where the action is and show people what she's got."

Holmes' relationship with Vitolo Jr. "was fun while it lasted," says the insider. "Now, she's ready to do what's best for her."
As OK! previously reported, a rep for Holmes confirmed her split from Vitolo Jr. on Friday, May 14. “The pair have parted ways,” the spokesperson said. As for why, a source recently spilled, “Their relationship fizzled,” adding that “Katie and Emilio really enjoyed their time together — it just simply didn’t work out.”
Holmes, who is mom to 15-year-old Suri Cruise, started to feel that “something didn’t seem right,” a source dished, so “she pulled away” from the relationship, causing a rift between them. Eventually she called the NYC-based chef “and told him it was over,” the insider claimed. “She dumped him.”
The source added that “Katie started to wonder if Emilio” — who has dreams of making it big in Hollywood — “had ulterior motives for dating her,” with all her Tinseltown pals and connections.
