Lizzo, 37, Reveals Why She Waited to Lose Her Virginity Until She Won a Grammy in 2020: 'It Was So Embarrassing'

Lizzo held off from being intimate in the bedroom until she was in her 30s.

On the Tuesday, March 31, episode of the “Friends Keep Secrets” podcast, the musician, 37, admitted she was a “late bloomer” and “lied about it for a long time.”

Hosts Benny Blanco, Lil Dicky and Kristin Batalucco guessed the exact age Lizzo was before she shocked the celebs, revealing she lost her virginity in 2020.

“Isn’t that crazy?” she expressed.

Batalucco asked whether she waited to have s-- because she was “building it up.”

“I wasn't even thinking about it,” she admitted. “For me, I just promised myself when I was younger that I wouldn't have s-- until I won a Grammy.”

Lizzo emphasized how she felt a “weight” lifted from her “chest” following the confession.

“It was so embarrassing. I was in a friend group of girls. We were all girling one night and it was like, ‘Wait, Lizzo are you a virgin?’” she recalled. “I remember it was so embarrassing. I said, ‘I love the D.’ I said that. And it held me over for a little while.”

The “Good as H---” singer also disclosed that she had her first kiss at age 21.

“First kiss at 21, that’s crazy,” Blanco expressed, then teased her by asking whether she knew how to kiss.

“Ya'll have no idea. It was religious for me too,” the star said. “Like, when we were teenagers at my church, we all made a pact that we wouldn't do anything before marriage. And then, I was just so scared. Like, nobody wanted to kiss me.”

She finally locked lips with a man during a New Year’s Eve event.

“He forced it on me. I was really mad and I was like, ‘My first kiss is ruined.’ I was so mad,” she remembered.

Lizzo has been dating Myke Wright since 2021. The two started off as friends before things turned romantic.

"I’m really grateful to have someone who’s extremely supportive, who doesn’t ask for s--- from me, nor does he need s--- from me," she told an outlet in September 2025. "He pours into me. He takes care of me."

In the same interview, Wright gushed over his woman’s smile following a “planned guitar session.”

In November 2022, Lizzo emphasized just how much she’s in love with Wright.

"People fight for monogamy like they pray to it every day. I am not a polyamorous person, I'm not in love with multiple partners. That is not me. He's the love of my life. We are life mates," she told another outlet.
