After Nick Cannon announced the shocking death of his 5-month-old son Zen — whom he shares with ex Alyssa Scott — during his talk show on Tuesday, December 7, his ex-wife Mariah Carey reportedly offered her condolences.
"Mariah has reached out to Nick in private to express her deepest and most sincere condolences for the loss of his son," a source close to the singer spilled to HollywoodLife. "She is not expected to say anything about it publicly and she will not discuss it if asked about it because Mariah prefers to keep these types of matters private."
Carey and The Nick Cannon Show host tied the knot in 2008, but ultimately called it quits in 2014. Their divorce was finalized two years later. They share 10-year-old twins Monroe and Moroccan together.
The source noted although the 52-year-old pop diva and Cannon's relationship "did not work out," the exes "have a wonderful coparenting situation and she could not be any more pleased with how that is going."

The insider added, "Nick plays an active role in the lives of Monroe and Moroccan and he is a good father. For the time that Zen was alive, Mariah knows that Nick gave that boy all of the love in the world because that is the kind of man he is when it comes to his kids."
Zen was the fourth child the Wild 'N Out host welcomed within the last year and a half. He welcomed Zillion and Zion in June and daughter Powerful Queen last December. Cannon also shares son Golden with ex Brittany Bell.
The All I Want for Christmas Is You songstress' kind gesture comes shortly after she shut down the idea of Cannon's five other children being related to the twins she shares with the 41-year-old rapper.
During a recent chat with Entertainment Tonight, host Kevin Frazier brought up Cannon’s ever growing list of children. “Will any of their step brothers or sisters get to enjoy Christmas your way?,” Frazier asked Carey, referring to twins Monroe and Moroccan.
The Grammy winner quickly replied, “Is it step? I don’t think it’s step. If you’re not married to the person. I don’t know about that, that’s a different interview for you.” (Assuming that’s a no.)
