Mary Fitzgerald Admits She Was 'Shocked' When Chrishell Stause & Jason Oppeinheim Started Dating

Even though Mary Fitzgerald and Chrishell Stause are besties, the former had no idea that her pal was off the market in July 2021.
"It did shock me. I mean, I love both of them, and I just didn't want anybody to get hurt. I was shocked but happy at the same time," the 41-year-old told David Yontef on his podcast, "Behind the Velvet Rope." "I mean, if you love two people, why wouldn't you love them together? I was like, 'Oh my God, now we get to double date, we can do this.' I was ecstatic, but I just wanted to make sure because he's not a relationship kind of guy. But he was very committed to her. He surprised me with how devoted and committed he was."
Unfortunately, Stause, 40, and Oppenheim, 45, went their separate ways in December 2021, as the soap opera star was interested in having kids — something the real estate guru wasn't on board with. "I mean the fact that they just wanted different things for their family going forward doesn't mean that they don't care about each other any less," Fitzgerald stated, adding that if children wasn't a factor they would "one hundred percent" be together.
When Fitzgerald, who is currently freezing her embryos, was asked if Stause and Oppenheim would give their relationship another shot, she replied, "I would say probably not. I don't know. Probably not because because I know how much she wants children, and I know he's not going to be ready. He wants the best for her. I would love it if they did get back together, but I don't really see it happening, but who am I to say anything? It's their life. I am just a bystander and a friend."

Fitzgerald — who had her son at 16 years old — understands why Oppenheim may be reluctant to take on more responsibility at this stage of life.
"I think he and I are very similar on that. I've done it, and I'm terrified, too. I don't know what that life looks like; I like the life I have. It's like, 'But what if I mess up everything that I have? What if I'm not ready for that? What if I don't want that life?' It's just such a big decision. So even though I tried to talk to him and give him other advice pushing them forward, I completely understand why he's saying this because that's what I'm going through now, too."
Despite no longer being together, it seems like the former flames are in a good spot. “We filmed a reunion a few days ago, which will come out, I think, next week … And I think that will explain some of where we’re at… And I think that was a helpful, a difficult but also a helpful day for us… Certainly for me in terms of just, you know, working through the breakup and… our relationship and moving forward," he noted.
He added, “But I’m happy with where we’re at and I think that we’re going to end up in a really good place together.”
