From his upcoming wedding to Molly Hurwitz to the highly anticipated Friends reunion, Matthew Perry has a lot to celebrate this year. And the 51-year-old actor — whose addiction issues and health woes have been well documented — is telling pals that he isn't taking any of it for granted.
"Matthew’s been to hell and back. He feels extremely proud to have turned his life around from rock bottom," an insider tells OK!. "He's never been so content."
It's a far cry from just a few years ago when the star underwent gastrointestinal surgery that required a three-month hospital stay.
"He was headed for the grave at the rate he was going," says the insider. “He knew he had to get healthier if he wanted to live long and prosper, and Molly's love definitely spurred him to action."
Today, Perry's changed for the better. "He's transformed mentally and physically, and it's really down to love," shares the insider, noting that Perry's lost around 50 pounds since getting engaged to the talent manager, 29, last year. "Molly cares about him, and she's helping him to see the sunny side of life. He tends to be pessimistic on his own, and even his inner circle has noticed how positive he sounds these days."
With good reason: According to the insider, Perry and Hurwitz plan to say their I do's this summer, shortly after the Friends special airs.
"They're planning a small, casual wedding in their garden with buffet and champagne for guests to enjoy," spills the insider, adding that Perry's old castmates are all invited. "He loved getting together with the old gang," the insider continues. "They've surely seen Matthew at his worst, so he's glad that they can see him as he is now."
"Matthew's found happiness with a woman who adores him for who he is," says the insider. "He can't wait to get married."
