Meryl Streep recently criticized Marvel movies, labeling them as “boring” during an interview on the Hits Radio Breakfast Show.
The Oscar-winning actress discussed her character, Miranda Priestly, in the sequel The Devil Wears Prada 2, while reflecting on the portrayal of complexity in film.

Meryl Streep criticized Marvel movies during an interview while promoting ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’.
When questioned about Miranda’s “soft side” in the new film, Streep responded, “I feel like you get a realistic view.”
She noted a trend in cinema where movies have become overly simplistic, stating, “I think we tend to Marvel-ize the movies now.”
Streep elaborated, emphasizing the dichotomy of heroes and villains in superhero narratives.
“We got the villains and we got the good guys, and it’s so boring,” she remarked, suggesting that real life offers more intricate characters.
“What’s really interesting about life is that some of the heroes are flawed and some of the villains are human and interesting and have their own strengths,” she explained.

Meryl Streep said modern films had become too simplistic and described the trend as ‘Marvel-ize the movies.’

Streep's comments add to a growing chorus of criticism from notable filmmakers. Directors like Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino have also expressed their discontent with the superhero genre.
Scorsese notably claimed in 2019 that superhero films are “not cinema,” while Tarantino suggested that these characters overshadow traditional movie stars.

Meryl Streep explained that superhero stories often divided characters into clear heroes and villains.
During the promotional tour for The Devil Wears Prada 2, Streep also made a light-hearted jab at NFL player Travis Kelce.
She spoke about the challenges of filming in Milan and jokingly challenged him, saying, “I’d like to see Travis Kelce do that,” in reference to walking in stilettos on cobblestones.

Meryl Streep also joked about Travis Kelce struggling to walk in stilettos on Milan’s cobblestone streets, prompting a humorous response from him on his podcast.
Kelce responded on his podcast, “New Heights,” where he humorously said, “I hope she doesn’t have beef with me!”
He expressed his admiration for Streep but conceded, “I don’t think I can do it, Meryl. I’ll let you have that.”
