After years of heartbreak, Michelle Williams has finally found her happily ever after.
Since secretly tying the knot in 2020 with theater director Thomas Kail, the Dawson's Creek alum "is on cloud nine," shares a friend. "She's never been this joyful and content before."
Williams, 40, split from the late actor Heath Ledger in 2008, two years after giving birth to their daughter Matilda, 15. "It hasn't been easy being a single mom, plus her relationships have all gone nowhere," admits the pal.
The My Life with Marilyn actress and 10 Things I Hate About You star were together for three years, but they broke up five months before the Brokeback Mountain star's tragic overdose.
In 2018, Williams revealed that she always held out hope that she would find a partner that loved her as much as Ledger did before his death. "I never gave up on love," she told Vanity Fair at the time. "I always say to Matilda, ‘Your dad loved me before anybody thought I was talented, or pretty, or had nice clothes.'"

Following the Aussie actor's death, Williams went on to date actor Jason Segel and director Spike Jonze. But the Blue Valentine star shocked fans when she secretly wed musician Phil Elverum, 43, in 2018, only to call it quits after less than a year of marriage.
Before meeting Kail, 43, on the set of 2019’s Fosse/Verdon, “Michelle had almost given up on finding someone, but thanks to him she’s learned to love and trust again,” adds the pal.
Since the couple welcomed their first child — whose name has yet to be revealed — last year, Williams, who’s now shooting her new movie The Fabelmans with costar Seth Rogen “only takes on gigs that don’t conflict with her family life, which comes first,” notes the friend. “She loves being a mom and a wife — and it shows!”
