Mindy Kaling Debunks Engagement Rumors, Says We Should 'Normalize Unmarried Women Wearing Rings On Their Ring Finger'
A false alarm! Mindy Kaling confirmed that she is not engaged following rumors that surfaced after she was spotted wearing a ring on that finger.
"Normalize unmarried women wearing rings on their ring finger without a hubbub," the 41-year-old tweeted.
Earlier this month, The Office star raised some eyebrows when she was seen at Santa Monica restaurant Giorgio Baldi wearing a huge diamond ring, OK! previously reported.
Fans agreed with the actress' take on the matter. "Let’s just normalize unmarried women !!!" one responded.
"I'll start a ring wherever I please! We're not put on this earth to please others. We women shall do what we want," another fan said.
"Or wearing diamond rings. I bought myself a nice diamond and everyone immediately wants to know who gave it to me. I gave it to myself. The end," a third fan shared.
Kaling is notoriously private and welcomed her son, Spencer, in September after a secret pregnancy but did not share who the baby daddy is.
She is also a mom to daughter Katherine Swati, who was born in 2017.
"My feeling is that until I speak to my daughter about that, I’m not going to talk to anyone else about it," she previously told The New York Times about keeping mum on her daughter's paternity.
Kaling announced that she had welcomed a son on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in October. "This is news to a lot of people. It’s true," she said at the time.
The unconventional family dynamic works just fine for Kaling, a source said. "Her life feels so full now," an insider told OK!. "She's getting little sleep with all the feedings, but she's so happy.
However, the insider added, "No one knows where she finds the energy." Kaling is balancing writing projects, parenthood and her daughter's virtual preschool, but the source insisted: "At the end of the day, Mindy’s so thankful that she’s got two incredible kids."
Fans have speculated that her children's father could be their godfather and her close friend, B.J. Novak. The pair reportedly dated on and off while writing and acting on The Office, but nothing has been confirmed.
"When I said, you know, 'B.J., if something happens to me, it's not like I have a husband, like you have to just take the kids,'" The Mindy Project star once joked. "And he's like 'Oh, my God, don't tempt me.'"
