Police Obtain Search Warrant For Alec Baldwin's Cell Phone Amid Ongoing 'Rust' Shooting Investigation
Santa Fe Sheriff's Department has requested Alec Baldwin's cell phone in a search warrant in relation to the ongoing investigation into the death of Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
The 42-year-old filmmaker was shot by the 30 Rock alum on October 21 in a heartbreaking on-set incident that also left director Joel Souza hospitalized.
Baldwin has since repeatedly denied he was at fault for what he has described as a "workplace tragedy", going so far as to say he didn't pull the trigger. He has been cooperating with law enforcement throughout the investigation.
Now, police are planning to search his phone for any potential evidence related to the case.

"Affiant is requesting a warrant for the seizure and search of Alec Baldwins' [sic] cell phone to search for any evidence relating to the death investigation of Halyna Hutchins," the affidavit read according to Fox News. "Affiant believes there may be evidence on the phone, due to individuals using cellular phones during and/or after the commission of crime(s)."
"Such information, if it exists, may be material and relevant to this investigation," the statement continued. "Affiant was also made aware there were several emails and test messages sent and received regarding the movie production 'Rust' in the course of interviews."
As OK! previously reported, the 63-year-old opened up on the tragic incident in an interview with George Stephanopoulos on Thursday, December 2.
"The reason I wanted to sit down with you was because I don’t really feel like I can wait for that process to end," the grieving father-of-seven began. "We have two victims here," he added, referring to the late cinematographer and their injured director. “Halyna and I had something profound in common and that is that we both assumed the gun was empty.”
"I’m handed a gun and someone declares, 'this is a cold gun.'" He continued. "In my ear on the sets of film, hot gun meant there was a charge in there and cold gun means there is nothing in there."
Baldwin and his reps have not yet to make a comment on the request for the actor's phone.
