Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Reportedly Eyeing $16 Million Mansion in 'Incredibly Expensive' Cotswolds After Leaving U.S.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may already have their eyes on an “incredibly expensive” new home as they prepare to spend more time in the U.K.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who reportedly landed in Birmingham on August 26 around lunchtime, are reportedly checking out properties in the Cotswolds, including one sprawling mansion said to be listed for “£12 million, or around $16 million.”

According to royal reporter Tom Sykes, Harry and Meghan are especially interested in the area around Stow-on-the-Wold, one of the Cotswolds’ most recognizable villages.

Sykes said word of the couple's alleged property search has been making the rounds among people familiar with the area.

“Now, tacky would be the wrong word, but the Oxfordshire end is slightly newer money as opposed to the Gloucestershire side. And there's a particular bit where Harry and Megan, I'm told, are very interested in looking at houses around the kind of region of quite a famous village that I'm sure any of our American visitors who've been to the Cotswolds will have visited, which is called Stow-on-the-Wold, which is a sort of famous village. That is the gossip going through all the WhatsApp groups, all the people, all the professionals in the Cotswolds,” he said on Wednesday, August 26.

The royal reporter also pointed out that while some locations may offer more options than others, the Cotswolds is hardly a budget-friendly place to shop for a home.

“It's around that sort of area where you can still buy these massive, massive houses, which are hard to pick up, to be fair, in Gloucestershire. The Oxfordshire end is a little more accessible. I mean, it's still incredibly expensive. I mean, you can still quite happily wander down Stow-on-the-Wold High Street and, you know, drop $500 on a beautiful sweater,” he added.

As OK! previously reported, Harry and Meghan are preparing to spend an extended period in the U.K. with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

While the couple stepped away from royal duties in 2020 before relocating to California, Harry "never really stopped missing home."

"He’s missed that sense of connection and belonging. Britain is still home in many ways," a source told People.

According to reports, the family landed in Britain on Wednesday, August 26, as Archie and Lilibet are scheduled to start school in September. The couple had reportedly been looking for a private, nonroyal residence outside London.

Their plans had allegedly been developing for roughly a year. With their children reaching school age, spending more time in Britain reportedly became a more practical option.

Still, Harry and Meghan aren't giving up their California life entirely. The pair are expected to maintain their Montecito home while spending an extended stretch of time in Britain.

Despite the move, the Sussexes are not expected to resume their former roles within the monarchy.

King Charles has maintained that Harry and Meghan will remain private, nonworking members of the royal family following their decision to step away from official duties.

Harry has also previously shown interest in what returning to Britain could mean for his children.

At the WellChild Awards in September 2025, the Duke spoke with British singer Joss Stone about her family's own relocation back to the U.K.

"He asked about how we were settling back in and was genuinely interested in our move home," Stone said at the time.

"He was saying how wonderful the schools are here and how important community is for children," she added.
