In his 2020 documentary In Wonder, Mendes opened up about the first time he met the "Worth It" songstress during Austin Mahone's 2014 tour, with the pair becoming quick friends — years before things turned romantic. "She was always there to look out for me as a human being," the Canadian crooner gushed in the film. "She's got my back, and I think that’s what your partner is for."
The exes previously sparked speculation that they had broken up after they were not spotted together after shacking up in quarantine — but Cabello shot down those rumors by praising Mendes for Wonder in October 2022.
"The world could use some magic, beauty, and Wonder always, but especially right now," the "Havana" singer captioned a sweet Instagram video of Mendes singing at the time. "@shawnmendes what a gorgeous gift to the world. He's crafted this album with every last bit of his soul, his spirit, and his essence with the purest of intentions."
