Shawn Mendes 'Initiated The Conversation' About Splitting Up With Camila Cabello, Insider Spills
While Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes seemed like a match made in heaven, it was reportedly the "Mercy" singer who first brought up calling it quits.
An insider close to the former Fifth Harmony member told E! News that Mendes "initiated the conversation" with his ex-girlfriend about breaking up. While the "Havana" singer was "very upset over the split," the source said that she "agreed" it was for the best.
"It was really hard for a few days but she has been spending a lot of time with friends and keeping busy," the source spilled. "She has a huge support system and is feeling renewed now."
According to the source, it was "not a bad breakup at all" and the former flames are "still in communication and want to be friends."
"The relationship was getting stale and complacent and they decided they are better off being friends," the insider explained.

Meanwhile, a source told Entertainment Tonight that the split was mutual. "They realized they are in totally different places in their lives at this point, and it was time to end things," the source explained. "They're both sad about the split, but doing their best to take care of themselves, stay busy and surround themselves by loved ones."
"Hey guys, we’ve decided to end our romantic relationship but our love for one another as humans is stronger than ever ❤️," the duo shared on their Instagram Stories on Wednesday, November 17. "We started our relationship as best friends and will continue to be best friends."
The 23-year-old and the brunette beauty began dating in 2019. Mendes revealed in his In Wonder documentary in 2020 that he first met the 24-year-old during Austin Mahone's 2014 tour. "She was always there to look out for me as a human being," he gushed at the time. "She's got my back, and I think that’s what your partner is for."
