Valerie Bertinelli Was Beside Ex-Husband Eddie Van Halen In His Final Moments, Reveals They Were In A 'Beautiful Place' At The End Of His Life
Valerie Bertinelli has opened up about the state of her relationship with ex-husband Eddie Van Halen prior to his October 2020 death.
"We went through a lot of hell as well," Bertinelli candidly pointed out. "We weren’t really good to each other at a lot of points in our lives because we met so young and were very immature. But I’m so happy that we were able to come to a beautiful place by the end of his life. I wish he was still here."
In the television host's new book Enough Already: Learning to Love the Way I Am Today, Bertinelli wrote about how the former couple — who were married from 1981 until 2007 — got to spend Halen's final moments together before he passed away following his battle with cancer.
“I love you are the last words Ed says to Wolfie and me and they are the last words we say to him before he stops breathing," Bertinelli penned in the book. "The love we have always had for each other proved stronger and more resilient than anything else. We chose to remain friends and family.”

Despite having their ups and downs, the One Day At A Time star chooses to focus on their deep connection that prevailed and transcended their troubles.
"I think soul mates, I think we have more than just one," the star said on TODAY. "I think that partly Wolfie is a soul mate of mine. When I think of soul mate, I think of souls that come here to experience this life on Earth together again and get to a higher place."
"I definitely, definitely know that was part of Ed. I loved his soul deeply," his former spouse made clear.
As OK! previously reported, Bertinelli told the news anchor, 57, shortly after Halen's death that it had been "rough" without him. "It's hard," she confessed. "I've gone to text [Eddie] a few dozen times and it's like, 'Oh no, I can't text him right now.'"
