Wendy Williams was reportedly acting strange for a while before her most recent hospitalization in 2021.
At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the TV personality was filming her hit show, The Wendy Williams Show, from her home in New York City when fans and staffers reportedly began to notice her odd behavior.
She was eventually admitted to the hospital in 2020, where she remained for weeks, causing her to take a hiatus from her beloved daytime show. Now, more details have been revealed about what actually happened before her hospitalization.
While producers at the time insisted Williams was suffering from symptoms of Graves' Disease — an autoimmune disorder that she opened up about for the first time back in 2018 — there was apparently much more to the story.
According to The Sun, the 57-year-old was acting "erratic" while filming in her at-home studio, including outbursts where she was seen "sobbing uncontrollably."
Sources also revealed to the outlet that Williams had been drinking heavily at the time and was struggling with her addiction problems following her split from husband Kevin Hunter, 50, in 2019. (The talk show host previously spent time living in a sober house to deal with her substance abuse issues.)
Williams' manager and a small group of staffers were eventually called to her New York City penthouse to offer their support during her rough patch. However, when they arrived to her apartment, they reportedly found her completely naked in her room while "touching herself in a sexual manner" and "shouting vulgar comments," it was reported.

She then reportedly became aggressive and was taken to the hospital, where she remained for the duration of the 11th season of her show.
The Wendy Williams Show eventually resumed in September 2020 but was once again sidelined nearly a year later due to Williams' ongoing health issues.
The show has since continued on without Williams, and fans have been enjoying her temporary fill-ins, especially Sherri Shepherd and Leah Remini, as they stepped in to help the show's viewership from plummeting.
Despite rumors that Williams will not be making a return to her famous purple chair, a source recently revealed she is, "preparing to make a big comeback."
"She’s feeling better every day and has every intention on coming back to her show, and even wants to work on some other projects in the upcoming year," the insider insisted. "Wendy never planned on not returning so that’s not something that’s even on her radar."
The embattled host also declared she was "doing fabulous" in December while leaving a Miami Wellness Center without shoes on.
