Those of us who overindulge in summer prints and statement pieces know what happens when basics aren’t accounted for—style panic when attempting to put together a new look that none of our coworkers will recognize.
Since summer dressing should be about ease and functionality, we caught up with celebrity fashion guru and Fashion Police host George Kotsiopoulos, who is the GAP Factory Store Style Ambassador, and got the details on the five basic pieces we all need to hold in our possession. Start your shopping list by checking out the interview below—and to see what George says about getting fashion advice from the Joan Rivers!
OK! Magazine: What five GAP Factory summer basics do you suggest indulging in this summer?
George Kotsiopoulos: White jeans are a must for summer. Period. [A] denim motorcycle jacket is a great alternative to a traditional jean jacket. Striped maxi dresses are perfect for travel and transition easily from pool to lunch to shopping. Gap Factory is, of course, know for denim and a faded, lived-in chambray button-up works with everything. Hawaiian print floral short shorts are a fun alternative.
OK!: What’s your favorite thing to find at GAP Factory?
GK: I love all the denim, especially the white denim. The fit is fantastic.
OK!: Do you ever ask Joan Rivers advice on your outfits?
GK: I know Joan may not care for an outfit when she tells me it’s great for summer in the Hamptons. I adore that woman.
OK!: Kelly Osbourne just did a MAC Cosmetics collaboration. If you could pick any brand to collaborate with on a product, what would it be?
GK: I think Gillette needs me. I think Tide and Downey need me.
OK!: What did you think about Kendall Jenner’s MuchMusic look?
GK: Kendall is a top runway model who can wear anything. I think she looked fantastic in that gown. It was not only appropriate for a music event but for the host to wear as well.
OK!: Who do you think is the next big thing in style?
GK: There are some well-dressed youngsters out there including Kiernan Shipka, Isabelle Fuhrman, Chloe Moretz, Elle Fanning, and Hailee Steinfeld. They look great as teens so they have nowhere to go but up.
OK!: What’s one summer style you’re already over?
GK: I feel like summer just began. In fact, it did just officially begin! I’m not sick of anything yet! But by end of summer, I will probably be sick of all the tropical prints I bought.
