It was the shocking elimination heard ’round the world: James Maslow and Dancing with the Stars pro partner Peta Murgatroyd were sent packing from the competition Monday night in part one of the season finale.
Despite two strong performances, somehow, some way the pair had the lowest combined total of judges’ scores and fan votes, but they went out on one sexy note, sharing a smokin’ hot real kiss during their tango.
“We were sick of these fake kisses,” James told reporters after Monday night’s show. “It was a kiss, there’s nothing wrong with that. No, I’m sorry, it’s a Tango Peck. I think they’re going to incorporate that term into professional ballroom now. She’s been teaching me a lot of moves and I felt I needed to teach her one.”
Although disappointed by his elimination, the Big Time Rush star was taking the news in true James style—putting a positive spin on it.
“Look, as sad and partially frustrated as I am to not be able to compete tomorrow, there’s also a sense of relief and excitement that this is the first time in six years that I’m going to be free to go do what I want to do, not be under contract,” he admits. “I came from tour with Big Time Rush right after filming our last season to this show. It’s been an amazing transition for me. I get to start my life as an individual.”
Although it doesn’t sound like James will have much down time for long, he’s already looking into an opportunity on Broadway and will finish up a Sony Crackle digital series called Sequester that should premiere in the fall.
