At the MTV Movie Awards Reese Witherspoon took a jab at reality stars and now Edie Falco is chiming in with her two cents. During a recent interview, the four-time Emmy winner and Tony nominated actress dished about the “frightening” hold reality television has right now. For instance, when it comes to Kim Kardashian, Edie has one simple question. Who is she really?
In an interview with New York magazine’s Vulture (via E! Online), the Nurse Jackie star asked, “Like, forgive me, I don’t know if you’re friends with her—but who the hell is Kim Kardashian?”
Bewildered and perplexed, she added, “Like, who are these people and why are they famous and why are they advertising things and being asked their opinions about things? I just don’t understand what these people did to be in a position of having everyone ask their opinions about stuff.” While she didn’t point fingers directly at reality stars, she also questioned the fascination with celebrities. “Most of them haven’t really done anything to earn where they are, which is what’s so troubling. There’s an obsession with famous people who, oftentimes, are not worthy of a million people knowing who they are and what they think.”
Ironically, when she was a student at SUNY Purchase, Edie told Vulture she wasn’t vying for fame. In fact, it was quite the opposite! She explained, “There were other women I went to school with who really were aiming for this; this was kind of what they wanted. And the fact that I am the one who ended up here is actually a big, you know, the universe is getting a good laugh at it. Like every actor says, I just want to do good work. It sounds disgusting, but I think it really is true.”
