Images of Kristen Stewart frolicking with married director Rupert Sanders behind boyfriend Robert Pattinson's back will surely be the number one celebrity story of 2012.

And as the couple fly around the world promoting Breaking Dawn - Part 2 and act like nothing has happened in front of fans, behind the scenes it's said to be a different story.

Us Weekly reports that the couple are still struggling to patch up their romance but that they both are making the effort to get back as they used to be before the scandal.

"There are good days and bad days," a friend said about how the starlet is feeling. "She still feels guilty."

Kristen apparently went on a full blown campaign for forgiveness to not only Rob, but his family and friends, and it's paid off.

"He's never going to forget what she did, but he has forgiven her," the insider shared. "Almost losing him was a wake-up call for Kristen. And Rob doesn't want to be angry anymore. They want to move forward."

A cast source added that the pair are "comfortable" and it's "almost as if no scandal had occurred."

"She still thinks the world hates her," the insider said. "It's hard to resume a relationship after something like that."

But regardless of what's happening in their personal lives, their movie hasn't faltered and midnight showings of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 sold out and the film is set to be a blockbuster hit.
