Stalkers have been in the news a lot lately and perpetrators in Canada are no exception. Literally minutes before Shania Twain was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame on Sunday night, an audience member at the Juno Awards was taken into custody by police!
Toronto police took Dr. Giovanni Palumbo, a 50-year-old doctor from Ottawa, into custody. According to PopEater, he was accused of stalking Shania and was actually under court order to stay 500 meters (approximately 1,600 feet) away from her!
The arrest was quietly made without incident and the Ottawa doc was ordered to appear in court on Monday morning; he’s currently in jail until at least tomorrow when his bail hearing for breaches of previous court orders will occur. Detective Michael Jander told the Toronto Sun, “One of her people had spotted him. He said he just wanted to meet her.”
Apparently he wanted to meet her for a long time, having sent letters and flowers to Shania in Switzerland. He showed up at her cottage home and was previously arrested for showing up yet another time, wearing a Shania t-shirt and carrying her autobiography. Yikes!
