2021 Golden Globes Snubs: Zendaya, Michaela Coel & Meryl Streep Get Shut Out Of Prestigious Awards Race

Awards season is upon us once again — even in a global pandemic. On Wednesday, February 3, the 2021 Globe Globe Awards were announced, and there were some shocking snubs.
For one, Meryl Streep — who starred in The Prom and Let Them All Talk — was not noticed at all, despite being nominated by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association 32 times over the years.
Adding insult to injury, Streep’s Prom costar James Corden was nominated for Best Actor, Motion Picture, Comedy.
Michaela Coel, who appeared in HBO’s I May Destroy You, was not nominated, either, leaving fans shocked and upset.
One person wrote, “Where is Michaela Coel in these nominees?! #GoldenGlobes,” while another echoed, “Where are the noms for Michaela Coel and I MAY DESTROY YOU???? #GoldenGlobes.”
A third user added, “Michaela Coel and I May Destroy You being shut out of Globes nominations is a f**king outrage. #GoldenGlobes.”
Sophia Loren, who has been acting for seven decades, was also not nominated for her Netflix film, The Life Ahead, which was released in November 2020.
Loren, 86, received her first nomination for Best Comedy/Musical Actress for It Started in Naples in 1961 but lost to Shirley MacLaine. In 1965, she was nominated for Marriage Italian Style, but Julie Andrews won the coveted trophy.
It seems like the members of the HFPA didn’t feel the need to award Loren for her performance this year, which would have earned her her first nomination in more than 25 years.
But the biggest surprise was that Zendaya was completely shut out of the Golden Globes since she wasn’t nominated for Lead Actress, Motion Picture Drama, for her Netflix flick, Malcolm & Marie.

Even though critics didn’t love the film, the HFPA typically loves to recognize rising stars — especially when she gave a performance of a lifetime in the black-and-white drama.
Naturally, fans were livid that Zendaya was not being acknowledged for her work.
One person wrote, “Zendaya got bamboozled,” while another echoed, “so the golden globes did not even nominate ZENDAYA or MICHAELA COEL??(dw they comin for the oscars instead).”
A third person said, “i hate this zendaya isnt nominated at all bye.”
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will host the Globes on Sunday, February 28; the show will air live on NBC at 8 p.m. ET.
