'American Pie' Star Shannon Elizabeth Reveals She Had Been 'Living Off' Her Savings Before Joining OnlyFans

Shannon Elizabeth is opening up about how joining OnlyFans helped her regain financial stability and start a new chapter in her life.

In a recent interview, the American Pie star shared that the subscription platform played a major role in helping her recover financially following her divorce from Simon Borchert. At the time, acting opportunities had slowed down as Elizabeth was spending much of her time in South Africa, where she focused on her nonprofit animal rescue organization.

Looking back on that period, Elizabeth explained how the idea first came up during conversations about rebuilding her career.

“I was going through a divorce here in South Africa and was chatting to my manager Joe about what’s next and how to restart things in my life. I had really neglected a lot of things, and he brought it up as an option,” she explained of OnlyFans. “I wasn’t sure and didn’t know much about it, and we looked into it, and I thought, ‘Yeah, why not?’”

“For the last ten years I’ve been living off of my savings for the most part because I haven’t been as focused on work. To be able to get myself back to the point where I’m not struggling and am able to choose projects because I like them and not because I need the money — it’s definitely giving me more freedom to do that,” Elizabeth added.

As OK! previously reported, the Scary Movie alum recently ended her marriage to Borchert. Reports stated that she filed for divorce on April 14 and launched her OnlyFans account the following day.

Around that same time, Elizabeth shared a reflective message on social media that appeared to hint at a new beginning.

“There’s something about the ocean that resets everything — slows the noise, softens the edges, and brings you right back to what matters. Grateful for these quiet moments, sandy paws and unconditional love,” she wrote.

A source also spoke about the major life changes Elizabeth was experiencing at the time.

“The divorce is fresh. She is freshly single and launching her OnlyFans tomorrow morning (April 15),” the insider revealed.

For Elizabeth, the move represents more than a business decision — it is also about having creative freedom.

“I've spent my entire career working in Hollywood, where other people controlled the narrative and the outcome of my career. This new chapter is about changing that, showing off a more s--- side no one has seen, and being closer to my fans,” she shared.

She explained that the platform gives her immediate access to her audience and greater control over her content.

“I'm choosing OnlyFans because it allows me to connect directly with my audience, create on my own terms, and just be free. I really do think this is the future,” she said.

Elizabeth also said reuniting with supporters has been very rewarding.
