Anna Faris revealed she stopped drinking in order to stop self-sabotaging.
Faris, 49, spoke out about her journey with sobriety on Chelsea Handler's "Dear Chelsea" podcast on August 20.
The House Bunny star revealed that she stopped feeling so "ungracious" for her iconic career as a 2000s comedic actress "only in the last year."
"I really started to notice and appreciate that if and when people recognize me, they would usually smile … thinking about something f------ stupid I did onscreen," she gushed.

Anna Faris realized her alcohol use correlated with her depression.
Faris rose to stardom in the early aughts for her roles in chick-flicks and instant classics, including Scary Movie, The Hot Chick and Just Friends.
But it seems she had become unappreciative and overly critical of her own work over time, even though fans have loved what she's done so vehemently.
"Do you think that has to do with not drinking?” Handler pressed the actress. “Because I know you stopped drinking. Maybe that lit that a little bit.”
'One of the Many Gifts'

Anna Faris called sobriety a 'gift' she had given to herself.
Faris quickly agreed with Handler's questions, calling her recent change of perspective "one of the many gifts" that she'd given herself by becoming sober.
"Turns out there’s a correlation between drinking and depression for me for sure," she added. "I had to take a step back to not self-sabotage."
This is the first time that Faris has opened up about issues she may have with drinking, despite playing a newly sober single mother on the comedy series Mom from 2013 to 2021.
She did not disclose how long she has been sober or what led to her decision to stop drinking alcohol.

Anna Faris Opens Up About Her Son

Anna Faris made rare comments about her divorce from Chris Pratt.
During the interview, Faris also made comments about her own motherhood, gushing over the 13-year-old son she shares with her ex-husband Chris Pratt.
She called Jack "solid as a tugboat," and "not easily jarred," though she admitted that he had taken on some of his father's religious views.
"He is religious. He’s asked me to accept Jesus Christ," she shared with Chelsea. "I told him I would do anything for him, including this, but it’s going to take a whole lot of conversations. He’s impressive."

Anna Faris opened up about her only son, Jack.
The actress, who divorced Chris in 2018, noted that she liked to "challenge" her son's views. Anna revealed that she presses her teenage son on his positions on abortion and the dangers of widespread religion.
"We’re getting there. I’m appreciative that he’s examining religion the way he is in terms of starting to recognize hypocrisy,” she added.
Jack is Anna's only son. She has been married three times, first to Ben Indra from 2004 to 2008, then Pratt, before marrying Michael Barrett in 2021.
"As lame as it sounds, I needed to understand how I wanted to be loved, how I received love," she said of her past failed relationships. "I don’t think I did that very well."
