Brittany Murphy's Husband Simon Monjack Conned The Actress Before Her Mysterious Death, New Doc Claims He Was 'Disturbed'
A new documentary is painting a very disturbing picture of late actress Brittany Murphy’s life leading up to her tragic death.
The actress died at 32 after collapsing in her Hollywood Hills home in December 2009. The Los Angeles Coroner’s office ruled her death as the result of untreated pneumonia, combined with anemia and “multiple drug intoxication” from legally acquired medications, including cough syrup.
What Happened, Brittany Murphy? focuses on the Uptown Girls star’s final days and her relationship with husband Simon Monjack.
In May 2010, the 40-year-old died in the same house from acute pneumonia and severe anemia. No drugs were found in his system.
The doc's director Cynthia Hill paints the British screenwriter as maniacal. “He was a disturbed individual who was used to conning people and Brittany was one of his last victims,” she spilled to PEOPLE. "There was a pattern of behavior that became very obvious the more research that we did."

The upcoming HBO Max special features interviews with Monjack’s mom, Linda, brother James, and former fiancée Elizabeth Ragsdale, who shockingly claims he left her “pregnant and abandoned” in the U.S.
After insisting she give birth in The States, he bought her a plane ticket, then ditched her. “When I got to my little studio in New York, I called him and he answered. I said, 'Simon, I've made it to...' and before I could get that sentence out, he hung up on me,” Ragsdale recalled.
Makeup guru Trista Jordan, who worked with the blonde beauty on her last film, 2009’s Something Wicked, described in gory detail the Georgia native’s last days. “Her eyes were so sunken, and she just seemed so sad,” she explained. “She wasn't herself. She was in so much pain. She had Bambi legs and couldn't stand up.”
Murphy's passing still remains one of the most puzzling Hollywood death's in history. “Her death was so bizarre and there are so many twists and turns,” executive producer Buddy Day dished.
What Happened, Brittany Murphy? will air on HBO Max on October 14.
