White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt gushed over her boss in a ruthlessly mocked statement that claimed President Donald Trump is "always" the "most well-read person in the room."
Leavitt heaped the praise on Trump during a Turning Point USA event at George Washington University on Thursday, April 2, while offering career advice to students, specifically citing a tip she received from Fox News host Dana Perino, who served as press secretary to former President George W. Bush.
Leavitt explained that Perino told her, "You always want to be the most well-read person in the room.”
The dutiful pregnant press secretary said, "You always want to be the most well-read person in the room, and I try to be every day. But Donald Trump always is."

Karoline Leavitt praised Donald Trump at an event.
Leavitt, who made the comments following an awkward incident in which Trump appeared to throw her under the bus for bad press, claimed that the news-obsessed POTUS is constantly "reading the papers and watching the TV.”
The statement drew significant skepticism and criticism on social media and from various political commentators, who pointed to past reports from both of Trump's terms suggesting he has a noted resistance to reading lengthy intelligence briefings or official documents.
“And she says that with a straight face, knowing quite well that Trump doesn’t read and knows nothing. How does anybody trust a word Leavitt is saying? Ever,” wondered one user via X.
Donald Trump previously threw Karoline Leavitt under the bus.
For years, multiple reports — including from the Washington Post and The Atlantic — have suggested that Trump does not read books, long reports, or detailed intelligence briefings.
He has reportedly preferred oral briefings, often requesting that information be summarized into short "bullet" points or into a single page.
“’The most well-read person in the room.’ At this point, even the room is raising an eyebrow,” quipped another skeptical social media observer.

Donald Trump claims he 'never' has time to read.
Trump has stated he is very busy and "never" has time to read. He has also claimed that he reads "very well" and often reviews detailed information regarding specific topics, such as tariffs.
Recent reports have emerged indicating that the 79-year-old president was using large, handwritten notes for briefings, with some observers noting he struggled to read them. In contrast, others praised his engagement with the material.

Karoline Leavitt's statement about the president was mocked.
“He could barely read his own speech last night,” noted another in reference to his low energy on Wednesday, April 1, address to the nation in which the POTUS seemed to have issues getting the words out.
Political commentator Vince Wilson wasn’t buying what Leavitt was selling either, noting, “Donald Trump can't read a room because of his dementia and narcissism.”
