Karoline Leavitt, 29, Praises 'Angel' Husband Nicholas Riccio, 60, on Final Day as White House Secretary: 'He Has Been a Blessing to Me and My Kids'

Karoline Leavitt raved over husband Nicholas Riccio in one of her final interviews as the White House press secretary.

The mom-of-two appeared on NewsNation’s Morning in America on Thursday, August 27, which marks her last day on the job.

After 20 months in the position, Leavitt, 29, said it's "surreal" to be stepping down, but she's looking forward to being able to spend time at home with her kids after giving birth to her second child in May.

While she was still at work, Riccio, 60, took on the bulk of the parenting duties.

"He has been just an angel and a blessing to me and my kids. He really has given up a lot to move to D.C., a town he's unfamiliar with... took a step back from his own career to be here for me and support me," she shared. "So thank you, honey. I love you."

Anchor Markie Martin asked Leavitt if there was a moment in particular where she realized she needed to be at home more, to which she said, "Well, as you know, every day, Markie, as a working mother, is a challenge."

"You have to make sacrifices. You have to prioritize your time. And you have to say no to a lot of opportunities that come your way because you want to be there for bedtime with your kids every night," she explained. "I think the birth of my second daughter, as I said in my statement, really just showed me that, you know, two children at home who deserve and need their mothers 24/7 constant attention and presence."

The White House staffer said the decision to resign didn't come easily, revealing she "prayed on it" and discussed the choice with her husband "night after night."

"It was one of the most difficult decisions I've ever had to make, but you know, God just convicted my heart that it's the right thing to do for me and my family at this time," spilled Leavitt. "I think I've served the president the best I can and he deserves the press secretary who can be here on the clock, literally 24/7. That's what the job requires."

Leavitt also praised boss Donald Trump, 80, saying she's "so grateful" the president was "so understanding of me and my family in this very difficult decision."

"I really think it just proves that he is a pro-family president," she continued. "So I'm very lucky and privileged to have a boss who's been supportive of that in that part of my life throughout this entire experience."
