Summer is just around the corner, which means bikini trends are starting to take shape.
One style taking over our social media feeds is the curious case of the “upside-down bikini.” For the record, the name of this trend is slightly misleading. You are by no means expected to wear your bikini bottoms as a top, nor vice versa. Instead, the bikini top is worn upside down. It can be tied as cross halter, a traditional halter or a barely-there bandeau.
According to numerous reports, Italian model Valentina Fradegrada was the first to start the trend in 2018. But recently, it’s picked up momentum from the stars.
Frankies Bikinis founder Francesca Aiello is also a fan. “It’s essentially more bang for your buck,” she told GRAZIA USA. “A two in one deal: a beautiful bikini that can be styled in a multitude of ways if you open your mind up! It’s a way to express creativity in the moment and also comfort.”
No strangers to revealing styles, nearly every sister in the Kardashian/Jenner clan has tried the skimpy trend, wearing different color variations of Sommer Swim’s $69 Xena bikini top and matching $79 Naomi side-tie bikini bottoms.
Kendall Jenner was the first to rock the halter-style upside down, which she tied into a bandeau style. "Me and this bikini: a love story," she captioned a slew of pics of herself at the beach in the suit in March 2020.
Kourtney Kardashian has since rocked a solid red version making a criss-cross haler with the top while Kylie Jenner quickly followed suit in with the blue version. Most recently, Khloé Kardashian, 36, sizzled in a purple upside bikini on Easter.
Kim Kardashian is the lone sister to hold out on the trend. We'll be waiting...
