Lamar Odom is using Will Smith's recent Oscars smackdown with Chris Rock as a learning lesson for his past marriage.
The former basketball pro, 42, took a stance on the chaotic events at the 94th Academy Awards over the weekend by comparing the situation to his marriage to Khloé Kardashian, 37.
In a lengthy Instagram post shared to his page on Tuesday, March 29, the Los Angeles Lakers alum insisted he does "not condone violence against anyone," but declared Smith, 53, just really loves his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.
As we know, the actor got up on the Oscars stage on Sunday, March 27, to give Rock a slap across the face after he cracked a joke about Pinkett Smith's shaved head while presenting an award. (Pinkett Smith suffers from an autoimmune condition called alopecia, which is characterized by hair loss.)

While many have since condemned the King Richard actor for getting physical with the comedian, Odom believes the love Smith has for his wife is the most important lesson in the situation.
"I see everyone arguing the merits of this altercation, taking side, dragging them both to hell when it all boils down to love," the former athlete wrote. "He loves his wife. She was hurting, it is a husband's responsibility to protect his wife. That is what he vowed to God and her, and he owes us ZERO explanation as to why he chose to hit @chrisrock."
"He did what a husband is called to do," Kardashian's ex continued. "Protect his wife, from anything and anyone who causes her pain."
Odom went on to relate the situation to his former marriage to Kardashian, which came to an end amid his struggle with substance abuse. The pair — who got hitched in 2009 — eventually finalized their divorce in 2016 after the reality star tried helping Odom for years with his addiction battle.
"Had I protected my wife versus mentally, emotionally and spiritually hurting her, I may still be married," Odom added in his caption. "Lets use this as a teaching moment, lets learn to set boundaries, lets learn to be humble, lets learn to embrace and forgive each other in the midst of our trials and tribulations versus sitting on a throne of judgement."
"Last I checked we (the peanut gallery 😳) do not have a heaven or hell to put anyone in. Same thing that makes you laugh will bring you to your knees," he wrote before concluding: "Love y'all for loving and supporting me ~ LO."
