'Nothing Could Sway' Meghan Markle On Decision To Step Back As A Senior Royal, 'She Needed A Voice,' Royal Commentator Says
It seems that nothing could change Meghan Markle's mind about stepping back as a working royal.
In January 2020, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced that they would be stepping down from their roles as senior members of the royal family. Markle reportedly could not be swayed regarding the decision.
According to royal commentator Neil Sean, Prince Harry originally told the Suits alum that there would be room for her to "modernize the royals" but later she realized that she "couldn't speak out too much," the Express reported.
According to Sean, Harry allegedly told the 40-year-old that she would "be able to make a big change" and "move forward with all the things that matter to her, including her notable charity work."
"Once she found out that that wouldn't be the case and the fact that she couldn't have a social media platform, couldn't really speak out too much, the fact she'd given a few speeches that were tinged with things that the British Royal Family did not really approve of — then she felt it was time for her to Megxit," Sean explained.
"A lot of people around her at the time tried to convince her, whether she liked it or not, that she could make a very impactful change," Sean spilled. "After all, she was a young woman joining a very established firm, but apparently nothing could sway her mind because she needed a voice."
"As she often said, and famously said in that interview with ITV, she wasn't really living, she needed to live and move forward, that was the whole point of life," Sean said, referring to Meghan and Harry's 2019 ITV documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey.

At the time, the 40-year-old told reporter Tom Bradby that "any woman especially when they are pregnant you’re really vulnerable" and that the media attention made it more of a challenge.
During Meghan and Harry's bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey earlier this year, Harry said Prince Charles and Prince William are "trapped" in the royal family.
"I was trapped, but I didn't know I was trapped," Harry said at the time. "They don't get to leave."
The couple told Winfrey that one of the reasons they stepped back was because of a "lack of support and lack of understanding."
Meghan and Harry have since relocated to Montecito, Calif.
