Portia De Rossi 'Rushed' To Hospital By Concerned Wife Ellen DeGeneres, Undergoes Emergency Surgery
Portia de Rossi was rushed to the hospital by wife Ellen DeGeneres on Friday, March 19, for an emergency surgery to deal with appendicitis. Luckily, de Rossi has since returned home and is "doing well," a rep for the couple reported.
"She was in a lot of pain. It was appendicitis and she had surgery," a source said of de Rossi's health status, adding that the Arrested Development actress is "now resting at home and Ellen is taking care of her. It was a scare at first, but all good now."
According to the Mayo Clinic, appendicitis is a common condition in which there is an inflammation of the appendix that causes intense pain. If not treated quickly — normally with surgery to remove the appendix — the organ can burst.
De Rossi, 48, and DeGeneres, 63, wed in August 2008 and have been by each other's sides through the ups and downs. De Rossi explained that they've "grown together as a couple and we really consider each other and put our relationship first." She said, "By doing that, you become a lot more solid. I can't imagine spending time with anyone but her."
"We think the same things, say the same things at the same time, finish each other's sandwiches — no, sentences," DeGeneres added at the time. "We're in a rhythm that's easy."
Besides taking care of the talk show host after she tested positive for COVID-19 in December, de Rossi previously came to her wife's defense after former staffers reported incidents of misconduct behind the scenes of DeGeneres' talk show.

As OK! previously reported, DeGeneres faced heavy backlash over the summer following allegations that her talk show is a "toxic" work place. De Rossi was one of the first of many celebs to come to DeGeneres' defense, as she took to Instagram to support the controversial host. “I Stand By Ellen” her post read with the caption, “To all our fans….we see you. Thank you for your support."
Following the lovebirds' tumultuous year — dealing with DeGeneres' health battle and controversial work accusations — OK! exclusively learned that the duo plans to renew their vows.
"Ellen sat Portia down for a heart-to-heart and told her how she couldn't have gotten through it all without her support and suggested they repledge their love by renewing their vows," the insider dished, adding that de Rossi is looking forward to the romantic gesture. "Ellen's aware she hasn't been the most attentive partner lately, and she wants to make sure Portia knows that she doesn't take her for granted."
PEOPLE was the first to report that de Rossi is at home and "doing well."
