Several months after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle alleged a royal family member expressed concern regarding their future children's skin color, many still have questions about what really occurred behind palace walls.

Now, author Christopher Andersen is spilling the tea on Prince Charles and Prince William's alleged roles in the scandal that was sparked by the royal-turned-Hollywood couple's sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey in March. (At the time, the royal couple made the bombshell claim that there were "conversations about how dark [Archie's] skin might be when he was born.")

According to Anderson, the questionable comment stemmed from the heir to the throne — and quickly spiraled out of control when a third party caught wind of the remark.

“I was able to trace this back to a comment that was made by Prince Charles to [Duchess] Camilla on the day that the announcement of Harry and Meghan’s engagement was made,” the Brothers and Wives: Inside the Private Lives of William, Kate, Harry, and Meghan author spilled to Us Weekly.

“And what he did was casually turn to her like any grandparent to be would do and say,'I wonder what their children will look like, hair color, eye, color, complexion.' … He did it fondly," insisted the author, per the outlet, "but the problem is it was taken misconstrued, contorted over a period of time by the bureaucrats and the palace — the people who [Princess] Diana used to call the men in gray — and they really weaponized that and turned it into something that was quite nasty by the time it reached Harry’s ear."

When the Duke of Sussex, 37, confronted his dad and brother, they told him he was “oversensitive” and “overreacting,” according to Anderson, per the outlet. “That complicated what was already a very complicated situation."

Though Prince Charles, 73, dubbed the story Anderson shared "fiction" and "not worth further comment" in a statement to the outlet, the author maintained: “The real fiction here is the denial."

“I wish the palace would take care to read what the book actually said," Anderson reportedly said after his book made headlines earlier this month. He went on to emphasize that the palace always goes into defense mode and denies any accusation made against them.

"This is what the palace always does," Anderson insisted. "There’s a knee-jerk reaction is to say, 'None of it’s true.' … In this particular case, clearly, they haven’t read the book because if they did, they’d see that, in a sense, it sort of softens the image of the royal family in terms of race."

After Harry and Meghan aired out their dirty laundry with the prestigious family during their CBS tell-all earlier this year, the parents of Archie, 2, and 5-month-old Lilibet reportedly said off camera that the person in question was neither Queen Elizabeth II nor Prince Philip.

Meanwhile, the Palace released a statement shortly after the interviewed aired that read: “The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan."

"While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately," the statement concluded.
