Chief Justice John Roberts was trolled by protesters on boats during a protest on August 15 outside his vacation home.

Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts learned that not even his private island property is safe from protesters.
On Saturday, August 15, the 71-year-old's vacation home witnessed a demonstration by protesters, the Midcoast Villager called a "floating vigil."
Using kayaks, canoes and rowboats, local activists staged an hour-long demonstration.
The outlet also reported that more than 20 people joined the protest on water, while another group of 20 or so people staged a protest on land.
They also reportedly carried signs that read, “The Roberts Court: Rubber Stamp for Fascism” and “Roberts Benched the Constitution," per photos published by the outlet.
Protesters Called Out John Roberts For His Controversial Decisions
Protesters pointed out John Roberts' controversial rulings through their demonstrations.
The protest organized by The Audacity: Creative Action Together, a local progressive group, also highlighted what they perceived to be his transgressions in recent years.
“Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health (2022): Roberts writes a concurring legal opinion allowing bans on abortion after 15 weeks, even following rape. Trump v. United States (2024): Roberts writes the ruling granting Donald Trump king-like immunity for illegal acts. United States v. Skrmetti (2025): Roberts writes the ruling prohibiting medical providers from prescribing gender-affirming care," they pointed out.
Protesters claimed that they wanted to highlight how John Roberts kept putting Donald Trump above the law.
Among the rulings they cited was the Vasquez Perdomo v. Noem (2025), which “issues a “shadow docket” ruling that grants ICE the right to use skin color to decide who to stop, harass and detain.”
“Louisiana v. Callais (2026): Roberts joins a majority gutting the Voting Rights Act,” they further added.
The organization also claimed that they tried to bring attention and “remind the community of the ways John Roberts has repeatedly used his elite power to mislead the nation, undermine the rule of law, erode judicial standards, harm workers, eviscerate women’s rights and place President (Donald Trump) above the law.”

John Roberts Is One of the Richest Chief Justices in Supreme Court History

Roberts bought the home on Hupper Island, situated off Port Clyde, Maine, in 2006.
The 1,344-square-foot home, like the island, is only accessible by water. They also bought a second home on the island that reportedly has double waterfront views in 2016, per Bangor Daily News.
John Roberts is one of the richest Supreme Court Chief Justices in history.
Apart from his controversial decisions, Roberts has also garnered scrutiny for his substantial net worth. Per Forbes, his estimated net worth is around $25 million, reportedly making him the wealthiest person connected to the Supreme Court.
The jurist will also reportedly continue receiving his Supreme Court salary, currently set at $320,700, for the rest of his life after he retires, per the outlet.
