No doggie paddles needed! These star pups know how to master a surfboard.

Over the weekend, tens of athletic pups put their skills to the test during the Surf Dog Festival in Brazil.

On Saturday, November 27, a group of dogs and their owners met up for the 2nd annual the festival on Miami beach in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, where each pooch headed out into the sea to catch some waves.

According to the Around World Journal, the Surf Dog competition provides fun and healthy competition for puppers, who are kept safe on their surfboards with a special rubber to prevent them from slipping. The dogs and their owners were also suited up in life jackets with a veterinary team on duty to support the contestants.

The event's organizer, Jacqueline Cordeiro, explained the importance of the event, saying: “Bringing a competition like this, still little known by the people of Rio Grande do Norte, and suddenly seeing a significant movement on the beach, it’s an incredible feeling that yes, it worked.”

World champion competitor pups were placed in the professional category, including Maya, Bono, Cocauzoca and Parafina who took home the first place win.

"Parafina and I managed to catch two good waves that allowed us to be in this place on the podium," the pup's owner Augusto Martins said over the weekend.

Cocauzoca, who is the daughter of Bono, is taking after her dad, according to their owner Ivan Moreira. "It was all very natural," Moreira said of his pup. "When she was three months old she started going to the beach when I was going to surf with Bono and already wantedto climb on the board. In the beginning it was difficult to hold the small one."

In addition to the 4 professional competitors, 22 other puppers were entered into the contest in the Beginners category — and they looked just as cute!
