'RHOA' Alum NeNe Leakes Confirms That Husband Gregg's Cancer Has Returned And He Is In The Hospital
Real Housewives of Atlanta alum NeNe Leakes revealed her husband Gregg Leakes' cancer has returned.
Greg's previous spat with stage three colon cancer was covered on the reality show, with viewers watching NeNe struggle with caring for her sick husband and the impact it had on their marriage.
"He's been in the hospital for a week, tomorrow," the 53-year-old told The Jasmine Brand on Instagram Live, when asked about her husband. "I'm sure he'll be home in about a week or so. He had to have a surgery, [because] his cancer did return."
"I haven’t talked publicly about that. This is the first time I’m saying something about it," NeNe said, adding that she was "sure he’ll be home in about a week or so."
"It's difficult," she admitted, noting the 66-year-old was "different" this time around: "He's super small."
"He's had this surgery before and he was in the hospital for about 15 days," NeNe explained of his current health struggle.
"I'd love for everybody to pray for Gregg, that would be beautiful. Pray for his strength," the reality star asked, "and pray for me too."
NeNe previously went public with the news of Gregg's cancer in June 2018 when she shared a photo of him in a doctor's office on Instagram.
"It's very, very hard to be a caretaker," she once admitted to PEOPLE. "People call and they say, 'How's Gregg doing?' and I want to throw the phone and say, 'How the f**k am I doing? I'm going crazy over here, Gregg is wearing me out!' I am not good at this s**t! I would rather hire somebody. Gregg doesn't want me to hire somebody, but I'm just not good. I'm not good at fluffing the pillow; I'm good at buying the pillow."
During a RHOA reunion special in April 2019, NeNe even admitted that she had been considering a second divorce from Gregg due to his attitude while undergoing chemotherapy. The pair initially tied the knot in 1997 before divorcing in 2011 and then remarrying in 2013.
"We always hurt the ones we love… because they allow us to hurt them rather than snap back," Gregg later admitted in an apology on Instagram.
"I'm tired of hurting my wife who is only trying to take good care of me and wants only the best for me too. She deserves much more for her hard efforts and tireless hours spent on me," he explained. "I pray to God to get it together… she's done NO wrong… this is ALL on me."
In May 2019, the couple took to Instagram to reveal that he had gone into remission. "Look at God! We are over joyed to say, we saw the doctors for the results of Gregg's Pet Scan he took last week! Test show, wait for It.....WE ARE CANCER FREE!!!" the post read.
